McCallum
§ 01Production · Four tiers, one outline

PRODUCTION

Machine work is not the enemy of craft. Hidden production is. Every McCallum build says exactly what it is, how it was made and why it costs what it costs.

If there is no signature, that's the truth too.

§ 02The four tiers× base price

Hand-shaped

×1.00 base

Signed by Jeff

Foam to gloss in the McCallum bay.

Foam blank, hand-tools, no machine. Shaped, glassed, sanded and signed under the same roof. The most expensive way to make a board, and — for some shapes — the only way they actually feel right.

Lead time
1014 wks
For
Surfers who want the original, with all the marks the hand leaves behind.

Slightly less consistent dimension to dimension than CNC. That is the point.

Computer-cut

×0.78 base

Stamped, not signed

CNC-roughed in the McCallum file, finished by hand.

The blank is rough-cut by a CNC machine from a McCallum scan, then finished, glassed and detailed by the bay. Lower cost, near-perfect dimensions, hand finish on the rails and tail.

Lead time
69 wks
For
Surfers who want McCallum geometry without the hand-shaping premium.

Reads cleaner than a hand-shape. Same outline, slightly different soul.

Ghost-shaped

×0.62 base

Marked, not signed

McCallum outline, anonymous shaper.

A McCallum shape, machined or hand-finished by a vetted shaper outside the bay. Same files, different hand. We mark it as ghost-shaped because pretending otherwise would be a lie.

Lead time
46 wks
For
Surfers who want the shape, accept the trade, and value transparency.

Quality is rigorously controlled. Provenance is not the same.

Mexico-made

×0.48 base

Labelled Tijuana

Same blueprints, Tijuana production.

The most accessible tier. The blueprints come from McCallum; the build happens in a partner factory in Tijuana. Different hands, different bay, same outline. Labelled clearly so the buyer knows.

Lead time
35 wks
For
Surfers who want a McCallum-designed board at the lowest honest price.

Not built in California. We say so on the label and on the receipt.

§ 03Why label it

A surfboard that doesn't say where it was built, by whose hand, on what foam, is hiding something. Usually price.

We sell hand-shapes at hand-shape prices and Mexico-made at Mexico-made prices. The customer sees the label, the receipt, and the lead time. They pick the tier that matches what the wave actually demands and what the wallet actually allows. No upsell, no downplay, no shame in either direction.
